Whereas, The Society of American Magicians was founded in 1902 and has more than 7,300 members worldwide; and,

Whereas, Members of the Society of American Magicians generously offer their time and talent for charitable purposes; and

Whereas, The Society of American Magicians provides entertainment for people with disabilities and people who would otherwise have difficulty getting to a theater to watch a live performance; and,

Whereas, The Society is dedicated to elevating the art of magic with its endowment fund proving educational and humanitarian assistance to its members; and,

Whereas, The Society encourages youngsters to develop self-esteem through the performance of magic; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of October 23, 2004, as Magic Week in Michigan.
