Whereas, Goodwill Association of Michigan’s 11 member organizations are community based, autonomous organizations that serve individuals with workplace disadvantages and disabilities by providing job training an employment services, as well as job placement opportunities and post-employment support; and,
Whereas, Goodwill Industries organizations help Michigan residents overcome barriers to employment and become independent, tax-paying members of their communities, providing them the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential and to participate and contribute fully in all aspects of a productive life; and,
Whereas, Goodwill Industries organizations respond to their local community challenges by helping those with physical and developmental disabilities and mental illness, those living in poverty, those who have lost employment because of economic downturns, criminal records, substance abuse challenges, the chronically unemployed; and those with HIV-AIDS; and,
Whereas, Goodwill Industries partners with local businesses and agencies to develop and operate mutually beneficial programming and employment opportunities; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2004, as Goodwill Association of Michigan Day.
