Whereas, April 25 through May 1, 2004, has been designated as National Tire
Safety Week by the Rubber Manufacturers Association; and,
Whereas, The tire industry vigorously encourages appropriate tire care and maintenance
to help promote motorist safety and save lives; and,
Whereas, The state of Michigan wishes to encourage safe diving and proper tire
care and maintenance; and,
Whereas, Four essential elements of tire care and maintenance are checking
tire inflation pressure (including the spare) once a month and before long trips,
periodic wheel alignment, rotation of tires every 6,000-8,000 miles and checking
tire tread regularly; and,
Whereas, The state of Michigan can “be tire smart” by performing
regular tire maintenance on their own vehicles to help maximize vehicle and
highway safety for themselves, their families and others; and,
Whereas, Proper tire care also helps the environment and saves consumers money
by promoting better fuel economy and longer tire life so tires can be replaced
less frequently; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of Michigan do hereby
proclaim the week of April 25, 2004, as Tire Safety Week in Michigan.
