Walk to Work Day

Whereas, The cost of not walking-living a sedentary lifestyle- is skyrocketing; and,

Whereas, Obesity and poor physical fitness are rapidly catching up to smoking as the leading causes of preventable death; and,

Whereas, While moderate exercise can have big benefits, most of us are nowhere near meeting the minimum recommendation of 30 minutes a day; and,

Whereas, The goal of “Walk to Work Day” is to inspire all Americans to add walking to their daily routine; and,

Whereas, A walk can be an invigorating way to clear your head and help increase productivity; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan do hereby proclaim April 2, 2004, as Walk to Work Day in Michigan and I urge all citizens to walk to work and take the first step to better health. Start today and work on wellness.
