Whereas, On this occasion we recognize our veterans for their long history of serving the United States with a firm commitment to the protection of the values which the United States and democracy stand for; and,
Whereas, Veterans have brought great honor to our nation and have given true meaning to the highest standard of patriotism and service; and,
Whereas, They have voluntarily forgone comfort and wealth, accepted the necessary sacrifices, and even given their lives so that we and others around the world may live in freedom; and,
Whereas, Serving in the United State military requires enormous dedication, a strong sense of courage, and the willingness to sacrifice everything - even one’s life - to protect the freedoms that we Americans hold so dear; and,
Whereas, Our country can never truly fulfill its debt of gratitude to our veterans for the sacrifices made every day to protect our country and keep our citizens free; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2005, as Loyalty Day in Michigan and encourage all citizens to recognize the service veterans and their families have given.
