Whereas, Nearly 3,000 Special Olympic athletes will come to Central Michigan University to compete at the 2005 State Summer Games; and,
Whereas, The State Summer Games are one of Special Olympics Michigan’s eight statewide competitions; and,
Whereas, Special Olympics athletes have enriched the lives of thousands of coaches and volunteers spanning all of Michigan, donating their time and energy to help those athletes experience the joy and excitement of athletic competition; and,
Whereas, The continued success of Special Olympics Michigan and the State Summer Games is due to the dedication and support of outstanding volunteers; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 2-4, 2005, as Special Olympics Weekend in Michigan and I commend the efforts of all the sponsors, volunteers, and the outstanding athletes for their commitment to the Special Olympics.
