Whereas, The Michigan Junior Chamber has played a vital role in the development of young leaders in Michigan since 1925 and the spirit of volunteerism shines brightly among the members of the Michigan Jaycees and its affiliated local organizations; and,
Whereas, The Michigan Jaycees have actively involved themselves in the life of our communities by providing leadership, rendering services, and helping thousands of Michigan citizens through a variety of endeavors; and,
Whereas, Their noteworthy contributions include such humanitarian projects as assistance to the elderly, fundraising for the disadvantaged, support for the Junior Family AIDS Network, and countless other efforts to address community needs; and,
Whereas, The Michigan Jaycees, in their 81st year and under the leadership of Robert J. Peacock, continue to provide leadership and training for people of all backgrounds and cultures; and,
Whereas, Currently numbering more than 3200 members in more than 80 chapters throughout the state, the dreams of this organization may be found in its creed, “We believe, That Faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life; That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations; That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise; That government should be of laws rather then men; That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality; And that service to humanity is the best work of life; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of June 19, 2005, as Michigan Jaycee Week.
