Whereas, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) are essential to America’s healthcare system, and have provided high-quality, cost-effective anesthesia care for more than 125 years; and,
Whereas, CRNAs are anesthesia specialists who are the hands-on providers of approximately 65 percent of all anesthetics given to patients each year in the United States; and,
Whereas, CRNAs are the sole anesthesia providers in more than 65 percent of rural hospitals, affording these medical facilities obstetrical, surgical, and trauma stabilization capabilities; and,
Whereas, CRNAs practice in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered: traditional hospital surgical suites and obstetrical delivery rooms, ambulatory surgical centers, the U.S. Military, Public Health Services, Veterans Affairs medical facilities, and the offices of dentists, podiatrists, ophthalmologists, and plastic surgeons; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of January 22, 2006, as Nurse Anesthetists Week in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to acknowledge and recognize the good work Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists provide to Michigan.
