Whereas, Arts and humanities activities of cultural and educational organizations throughout Michigan add balance to the everyday lives of our citizens, enriching us with an appreciation of the beauty, knowledge, and creativity that is at the core of the human spirit; and,
Whereas, Michigan's rich cultural legacy and the diverse heritage of our population are treasures we celebrate throughout the year in communities around our state; and,
Whereas, Through the observation of October as Arts and Humanities Month, special emphasis is given to the benefits we receive from the visual and performing arts and the study of history, philosophy, and literature; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 2006, as Arts and Humanities Month in Michigan. I encourage all citizens to participate in arts and humanities activities and to honor those individuals and organizations that make them possible.
