Whereas, The health and well-being of Michigan’s children is the responsibility of both the family and the community; and,

Whereas, “Walk to School Day” was created to promote the importance of physical fitness and pedestrian safety for our children; and,
Whereas, Community leaders all across the state will escort school-bound children in an effort to keep them healthy and safe; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2006, as Walk to School Day in Michigan, and I extend my appreciation to all the community leaders and schools for the participation and support they have shown the young children in our state.
