Whereas, Nurturing fathers strengthen Michigan families and help children receive the parenting they need and deserve to thrive; and,

Whereas, Fathers who actively participate in the lives of their children diminish the risks of childhood poverty, child mental illness, juvenile delinquency, youth sexual activity, teen-age pregnancies, substance abuse, and failure to complete high-school; and,

Whereas, Fathers who actively participate in the lives of their children successfully enhance their children's success in social skills, academic performance, adult careers, employment goals, and parenting skills for their future families; and,

Whereas, Responsible Fatherhood Awareness Month provides an opportunity for Michigan citizens to learn more about fatherhood issues and to show support for the numerous organizations and individuals who are providing advocacy efforts, resources, and services to promote positive paternal involvement; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 2007, as Responsible Fatherhood Awareness Month.  I encourage all citizens to recognize the importance of responsible fatherhood in securing a bright future for Michigan's greatest resource, our children.
