Whereas, International education and exchange include thousands of programs, public and private, campus-based and national, that promote the sharing of ideas and experiences across borders; and,
Whereas, The programs include study abroad programs, citizens and scholarly exchanges, foreign students on U.S. campuses, area and foreign language studies, and global approaches to U.S. education; and,
Whereas, There are currently 22,000 foreign students studying at Michigan colleges and universities; and,
Whereas, It is important to recognize the significant impact international education has in our lives and communities and to promote international educational exchanges as a way to enhance mutual understanding and acceptance; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of November 12, 2007, as International Education Week.
