Whereas, On August 11, 2007, the Detroit Demolition Women's Football Team competed against the Atlanta Xplosion in the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) championship game; and,
Whereas, The Detroit Demolition achieved an impressive record of 10-1 in the 2007 season and beat the Atlanta Xplosion 17-7 to capture their first IWFL Championship; and,
Whereas, The Detroit Demolition positively represents the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan both on and off the field; and,
Whereas, The women of the Detroit Demolition serve as role models and sources of inspiration for women and girls everywhere by emphasizing the importance of hard work, dedication, and positive self-image; and,
Whereas, The Detroit Demolition organization is furthering the cause of equality of all regardless of gender, race, or economic background; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 25, 2007, as Detroit Demolition Day in the state of Michigan. I congratulate the players, coaches, families, and fans of the Demolition for affirming Detroit's place on the professional sports map.
