Whereas, We are blessed to live in a time when medicine and technology have helped us live richer lives, and as a result persons with disabilities are living longer, and people over 85 are the fastest growing segment of our population; and,
Whereas, Family caregivers provide generous support to loved ones who are chronically ill, elderly, or disabled; and,
Whereas, Our oldest, wisest and most valuable citizens want to stay in their homes and neighborhoods while they age; and,
Whereas, Family caregivers allow their loved ones the opportunity to remain in their homes, the place where they feel the most comfortable for many years; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 2007 as Family Caregivers Month. I encourage citizens to recognize the many contributions family caregivers give to their aging loved ones.
