Whereas, April 30, 2009, will represent the 34th anniversary of the end of American involvement in the Vietnam conflict; and,
Whereas, Thousands of brave Americans served our country in this conflict with courage, honor, and valor; and,
Whereas, Serving in the United States military requires enormous dedication, a strong sense of courage, and the willingness to sacrifice everything to protect the freedoms that we Americans hold so dear; and,
Whereas, More than 58,000 individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam, and thousands more were wounded in combat; and,
Whereas, The 34th anniversary of the Vietnam conflict presents the opportunity for the people of America to honor and thank our Vietnam Veterans for all they have given in service to our country;
Now, Therefore be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 30, 2009, Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day in Michigan. I applaud the patriotic spirit and sacrifices of the distinguished citizens who have so proudly served our country, and I urge the residents of this state to recognize America's veterans and military personnel with public ceremonies and private reflection.
