The Summer 2003 Michigan Leadership Development Program (MLDP) began with
Intern Orientation hosted by Lieutenant Governor John Cherry, Jr. and First
Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern. The Lieutenant Governor gave welcoming remarks
to the new interns, commenting on both his personal experience as a public servant,
and the immense rewards that a career in public service could provide. Mulhern
conducted an interactive values seminar which allowed the interns to explore
their personal priorities and opened their minds to the ways in which they might
begin fulfilling those priorities as participants in the MLDP service learning
experience, as well as in their everyday lives.
