Michigan Announces Workforce Investment Act Funding Award to Provide On-the-Job Training for New DaimlerChrysler Employees

The Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth today announced the awarding of $250,000 in Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Statewide Activities funding to Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) Michigan Works!  This funding will be utilized to support on-the-job training for newly hired employees at DaimlerChrysler’s two new facilities in Dundee.

“This funding provides to workers that will give workers the skills needed to succeed in the 21st-century workforce,” said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.

WIA Statewide Activities funding is made available through the federal Workforce Investment Act and is administered by the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.

The Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth is the state government agency charged with providing the skilled workforce Michigan needs to enhance and maintain its economy.  To this end, the state’s career and training agency is working with employers, K-12 schools, community colleges and local Workforce Development Boards to operate a comprehensive career development system.  For more information about the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth, visit the department’s Web site at www.michigan.gov/dleg.
