The
Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth today announced the awarding
of federal career center grants totaling $4.5 million to the 25 Michigan Works!
agencies. The funding will be used to further develop Michigan’s one-stop system
for job seekers and employers.
Services
from the state’s major workforce development programs are conveniently located
at Michigan Works! Service Centers throughout the state. Job seekers can find
education, job training, employment support services and job openings, while
employers have access to a pool of qualified workers and related supportive
services.
“The
Michigan Works! Service Centers help workers to find jobs, and employers to
find workers,” said Governor Jennifer Granholm. “This funding will enhance
the services we already provide.”
Funding is made available through the
federal REED Act and is administered by the Department of Labor & Economic
Growth.
The Michigan
Department of Labor & Economic Growth is the state government agency charged
with providing the skilled workforce Michigan needs to enhance and maintain
its economy. To this end, the state’s career and training agency is working
with employers, K-12 schools, community colleges and local Workforce Development
Boards to operate a comprehensive career development system. For more information
about the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth, visit the department’s
