BACKGROUND: The transportation enhancement grant enables communities across the
state to invest in projects that create people-friendly neighborhoods. Both
of these projects have been awarded "Cool Cities" grants announced by
Gov. Granholm in June. These grants will create walkable streets that will
continue to attract businesses and workers in the 21st century. This
program provides an average of 60% federal funds, with MDOT, local
agencies and the private sector providing the remainder of the necessary
funds.
