The Library of Michigan offers children a chance to discover their roots while learning to use online resources, historic newspapers and much more, as it presents the Genealogy Sprouts day camp on Friday, Aug. 10.
The camp, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon, is open to children ages 9 to 12, and registration is $14. Genealogy librarians will introduce children to family history resources as they create a personal timeline and pedigree chart of ancestors.
"This program helps kids get in touch with their family's past," said Randy Riley, special collections manger at the Library of Michigan. "They get a kick out of looking up old newspaper articles and seeing 19th-century documents that have been digitized for access through the Web."
Genealogy Sprouts is part of Summer Sizzles, a program of the Michigan Historical Museum. For registration information, please call (517) 373-1905, or go to www.michiganhistory.org and follow the link to Summer Sizzles.
