With the military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, all of us are filled with great concern but none more than those who are involved directly and indirectly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those in harm's way and to the families of our service men and women.

Relatives and friends of HAL staff currently serving in the Armed Forces.

Keith Becker, serving with the Navy out of Norfolk, VA. He is an E-6 Petty Officer First Class,stationed at Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center. He is the brother of Joe Becker, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Andrew DuMond Clarke (Drew), Marine Corps, Lance Corporal. Now serving in Georgia. Cousin of Kim Laird, Library of Michigan.

Corporal Robert Cook, USMC, is now stationed in Iraq with the 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment. Robert is the son of Dan Cook, Park Manager at Mackinac Island State Park.

Chief Petty Officer Jon Dancisak, in the Navy. He is now stationed at Sub Base Groton in Connecticut, working on web security and administration for the base. Jon, is the son of Chris Dancisak, Michigan Historical Museum.

CPT Jason Dickerman, Intelligence Officer, 4th BCD/ISRD (US Army). He is serving in Iraq. Jason, is the cousin of Christine Johnson, HAL Business Services.

Amber Krueger, is in the Air Force, deployed to Korea for 2 years. She is the cousin of Beth Garratt, HAL Business Services and Cindy Krueger, HAL Communications.

Lt. Colonel Jill Stiglich, Air Force, is stationed in Baghdad. She is the cousin of Mark Jury, Record Center.

Master Sergeant Warren VanNortwick, USMC. He is the brother of Karren Reish, Library of Michigan.

Sgt. Sean Wade, Squad leader in B Co. 1/16th Infantry. Stationed at Camp Corregidor in Ramadi. Sean is the nephew of Dave Lamb, Department of Information Technology currently serving HAL staff.

When should the US flag be flown?
  Flag Honors In Proclamation No. 2003-4, signed by Governor Granholm, U.S. flags are ordered lowered to half-staff throughout the state of Michigan and to half-mast on Michigan waters whenever one of Michigan's own is killed in the line of duty.


Relatives of HAL staff who have served in the Armed Forces.

Chuck Sochor, Veteran of World War II. Served in the U.S. Navy, South Pacific, 1944 – 1945. Chuck is the father-in-law of Jennifer Sochor, Michigan Historical Museum.
