1839 Tourist Map

Tourist's Pocket Map of Michigan, 1839

The first issue of the "Mitchell Map" appeared in 1834. It was reissued in 1835, 1836, and 1839.

The map depicts the internal improvements, roads and distances in the surveyed portion of the state. In the unsurveyed portions of the state, tourists would have been hard pressed to find their way using the map.
