You don't have to be a veteran to attend this annual eventjust a person interested in the contributions and sacrifices made by American men and women in service to their country.
The Veterans Tribute is an annual presentation of the Friends of Michigan History, the statewide membership group that supports the programs of the Michigan Historical Center. Held every year on the Sunday before Veterans Day, the Veterans Tribute features:
- a guest speaker
- a massing of the colors ceremony that includes military, scout, civic and other community groups
- a reception with refreshments
"The Veterans Tribute offers a rare opportunity to hear first-hand accounts from those who have served our nation during the conflicts of the 20th and early 21st centuries," says Francis R. "Bus" Spaniola, president of the Friends of Michigan History. "This is one of the main Veterans Day events in Michigan."
If your military, veteran, scout, civic or other group would like to participate in the Massing of the Colors using an American, unit or group flag, RSVP by October 31. Telephone Chris Dancisak at (517) 373-1668 or send e-mail to DancisakC@michigan.gov.
