Black Iron Days

Saturday and Sunday
August 23 - 24, 2008
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hartwick Pines Logging Museum, Grayling

Blacksmith demonstration

Two of the more than 50 blacksmiths who make Black Iron Days at Hartwick Pines Logging Museum the largest gathering of blacksmiths in Michigan, demonstrate their skilled craft.

Michigan's largest gathering of blacksmiths is here at Hartwick Pines. Other crafts people, including woodworkers and spinners, will be at work, too. The sawmill will be operating and you can enjoy the sounds of live traditional music.

Saturday at 1 p.m.: See a special exhibition of "vintage baseball" as the Hartwick Pines Swampers take on Midland County's Mighty River Hogs at the ball field in the park's picnic area. Discover baseball as it was played in 1860—with no glove and rules different from those of the 21st century.

This event is free of charge. For more information, please telephone (989) 348-2537.

Sponsored by the Friends of Hartwick Pines.

Hartwick Pines Logging Museum—part of the Michigan Historical Museum System—is located eight miles northeast of Grayling, in Hartwick Pines State Park; a Michigan State Parks motor-vehicle permit is required for park entry. Here's more information about how to find Hartwick Pines.
