The sights and sounds of the Civil War come to Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. July 25 to 27, 2008, at Fort Wilkins, Copper Harbor. Events begin at 8 a.m. each day.

Civilian Conservation Corps Museum

Saturday, July 26, 7 p.m. Historian and entertainer Bill Jamerson will present "Songs of the CCC" at the Civilian Conservation Corp Museum located on North Higgins Lake Drive. Campeau's Company Encampment at Colonial Michilimackinac
Costumed 18th-century reenactors will join the soldier and colonial interpreters already at the 1770s fort and fur trading village, enhancing it through woodworking, military drills, and colonial crafts. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission.

Evening Hours at Fort Mackinac, Mackinac Island
At the height of summer, tickets to Fort Mackinac are sold until 8 p.m and the fort buildings stay open until 10 p.m.. Grand Hotel also extends its service at the fort's Tea Room Restaurant for dinner overlooking the spectacular Straits of Mackinac.

Mackinac Island Historic Downtown Buildings open through Aug. 23, 2008.
Mackinac's 19th-century fur trade community comes to life at the Biddle House, American Fur Company Store & Dr. Beaumont Museum, McGulpin House, and Benjamin Blacksmith Shop, all open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The Mission Church is open during these dates from noon-4 p.m., although it is not staffed. Admission included with Fort Mackinac ticket, or separate admission ticket can be purchased.

Michigan Governor's Summer Residence Tours, held every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. through August 27, 2008.
Over 100 years old, the Michigan Governor's Summer Residence has functioned as a summer home for eight Michigan governors and their families dating back to 1943. A rare look into the 1902 cottage overlooking Mackinac Island's harbor. Free.

The Picture Man: Lansing through the Lens of R. C. Leavenworth
For over a century, Leavenworth Photography has shot hundreds of thousands of images that tell the story of industry, business, and social life in Michigan's capital city. The exhibit runs through September 30 in the temporary exhibit area on the first floor of the Michigan Historical Center, Lansing. Admission is free.
