Elmore Leonard
Elmore Leonard was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1934, his family settled in Detroit, and he has remained in that area ever since. He graduated from the University of Detroit in 1950 with a degree in English and Philosophy. After working as a copywriter for an ad agency in Detroit for a few years while writing on the side, he began to be published in the 1950s. He now has more than 30 bestselling mystery novels to his credit. He has been called the best living practitioner of American Crime Fiction and he is one of the premier writers of crime fiction. This is his 2nd time on the Michigan Notable Books list.
