April 30, 2008 - The Michigan National Guard Drug Demand Reduction team will celebrate the graduation of Michigan middle school students (grades 6 through 8) for successful completion of an innovative educational experience called "Stay on Track."

Stay on Track (SOT), an evidence-based drug prevention program taught in 12 lessons, helps youth make informed decisions about drug use. SOT uses parallels with professional auto racing and builds confidence through interactive games, small group discussions, brainstorming, role playing, and other activities that educate and inform children about the dangers of drug use. The program features realistic techniques for youth to use for making positive choices in high-pressure situations.

SOT graduates will receive a free ticket to the May 17th, Merritt Speedway, Saturday Night Special race compliments of Merritt Speedway owners, Rod and Johnna Ancel with funding support from Big Boy Restaurant of Houghton Lake. The Ancel's and Big Boy applaud Michigan middle school students from Farwell, Marion, Marcellus, Roscommon, and Le Roy-Pine River who have taken the time and exerted effort to ensure that they maintain control of their lives.

Together we can help Michigan middle school students make healthy life decisions and prevent future drug use. Community members, parents and family, teachers and the media are invited to attend the May 17th race to encourage youth to Stay on Track!
