Michigan Army National Guard unit deactivates after 13 years of service Ceremony Today at 3 p.m.

November 2, 2008

Lansing, Mich.--The 363rd Adjutant's General Detachment, Lansing, Michigan Army National Guard, will hold a deactivation ceremony after 13 years of service. The ceremony will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Michigan National Guard Headquarters, 3411 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Lansing, Mich.

The unit was activated on Oct. 1, 1995 in Lansing, Mich., and will be officially deactivated at the ceremony. The unit was ordered to state service in support of the recovery operations for Hurricane Katrina in 2005, where they processed more than 300 civilian refugees at Fort Custer Training Center.

More recently, the unit was activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit deployed to Kuwait in July of 2006. While deployed the unit processed Soldiers and units during the surge, successfully moving more than 500,000 individuals through their area of operations.

"It was a great learning experience, not something we would typically do on a deployment, but we ended up being very successful," said 1st Sgt. Vincent Williams.
