Taylor, Mich. ? Corissa Barton of Jackson, Mich., has been promoted to the rank of captain in the Michigan Army National Guard.
Barton is a public affairs officer with the Taylor-based 177th Military Police Brigade. She has been a member of the Michigan National Guard for seven years.
Barton enlisted in 2002 as a cadet in the Reserve Officer Training Course at Central Michigan University where she completed a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in 2004.
Barton served a year-long tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from May 2007 to May 2008.
During her military career, Barton has received numerous awards including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and a Combat Action Badge.
Barton is employed full-time with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in Lansing, Mich., as the State Deputy Public Affairs Officer.
Barton is the daughter of Mike and Liz Barton, of Jackson.
