- Why Frogs Call and Why We Should Listen
Humans have delighted in the calls of frogs since the beginning of recorded history. Yet, we are only now starting to understand what they are saying to one another. This new 30-minute documentary, "Why Frogs Call and Why We Should Listen", shows over 20 species of frogs in a wide variety of habitats, croaking, mating, and fending off rivals. The DVD includes USGS range maps of frogs and a curated list of the video clips from the Web site.

- The Institute for Inquiry
The Institute for Inquiry is based out of the Exploratorium, San Francisco's museum of science, art, and human perception. The Institute focuses on the scientific process of asking questions and seeking answers. Their website provides information about their various workshops and a library with books relevant to a range of scientific topics as well as teaching science at various grade levels. Some of the books are available online; others are available to order from the site.
- Great Lakes Education Program
The Great Lakes Education Program is a fourth-grade classroom and field educational opportunity focusing on Great Lakes and Detroit River resources. The program consists of three segments, each integrating elements of physical, chemical and biological sciences, history, geography, mathematics, literature and the arts. The program includes field experience, with pre-field learning activities, and post-field classroom activities. - Preschool Science
The materials on this site were compiled specifically to address how to introduce preschool age children (ages 3-5) to the field of science. The materials available on this site are collected from the Exploratorium's Learning Studio and feature a hands-on way to educate young children. Specific lessons include mathematics, science and technology, earth science, biology, and the five senses. They have also created a Web page of pedagogical information that includes both print sources and Web sites.
- Water Filtration Challenge - Teacher's Guide
Earth provides the air we breathe, the water we drink, and other conditions that support life. On the International Space Station, the Environmental Control and Life Support System provides these needs. The functions of an ECLSS include atmosphere revitalization; atmosphere control and supply; temperature and humidity control; water recovery and management; waste management; and fire detection and suppression. The activities in this guide, for grades 5 - 8, focus on water recovery and management. The challenge is to design and build a water filtration device using commonly available materials. To meet this challenge, students build, test and measure the performance of the filtration device, analyze the data collected, and use this information to work towards an improved filtration design!

The websites meet criteria that correlate them directly with Michigan Science Content Statements and Expectations. Websites are separated by grade level, and have various resources and classroom activities for science teachers.
- New Web Site Helps Kids Identify the Healthiest Fish to Eat
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency launched a new Web site to help children and their parents choose the healthiest fish to eat, using interactive stories and games. The site has been selected as the August site of the month by kids.gov, the official kids' portal for the
U.S. government. Whether they catch their own fish or buy it at a store, children and their parents can use the Web site to learn how to select fish that are low in contaminants. The Web site includes stories focusing on different methods of obtaining fish, along with interactive games, to teach children ages 8-12 how to recognize common fish species and use fish advisories. - iCue: Immerse. Connect. Understand. Excel.
This Web site utilizes the NBC Video Archive to teach high school students about a wide range of topics. Through the use of videos, games and online activities, students will receive an interactive learning experience that is not only educational but is entertaining as well. The program was developed based on research from the MIT Education Arcade, a research group devoted to integrating gaming and peer collaboration into traditional learning and environments. This Web site is a unique attempt to make learning fun for today's active teens.
- Your Environment, Your Choice:
A website created by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designed to engage teenagers in environmental decision making. Teenagers can review the information presented and click the links provided. Includes podcasts and useful tips that encourage teenagers to discuss and implement environmentally sound decision making.

- The Canadian Journal of Environmental Education: Publishing Opportunities:
The Canadian Journal of Environmental Education is looking for all those who may be interested in reviewing material for their publications. Individuals will be matched up with a text that they find of interest and will then submit their reviews to the journal. The CJEE desires that the analysis be approximately 500 words in length and that it is submitted 60 days after the book is chosen. - Blue Ocean Institute
The Blue Ocean Institute has created a forum for those wishing to express their feelings about all things relating to the sea. For individuals inspired by the ocean, and coast this website provides an outlet for their expressive interpretations of their memories by the sea. - Invasive Plants and Their Harmful Effects
Invasive plants are a large environmental concern and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service is branching out to help educate and inform individuals of this growing problem. On the new e-learning website there is information and facts about invasive plants as well as interactive learning modules that educates volunteers on how to assist in the prevention of invasive species. - Scientific Facts on Ecosystem Change:
A "synthesis" of multiple independent reports that answers high-level questions like: "How have ecosystems and their services changed? How have these changes affected human well-being? How might ecosystems change in the future, and what are the implications for human well-being?" The individual reports were mostly spatially partitioned into different areas of the world, and answered those questions in ways appropriate for the participating institutions. - Earth Charter Center of Education for Sustainable Development:
During its 32nd General Conference in October 2003, UNESCO adopted a resolution "recognizing the Earth Charter as an important ethical framework for sustainable development." Educators worldwide, from primary schools to universities have been using the Earth Charter in many ways as it offers a clear vision of sustainability. - Alliance to Save Energy:
This organization offers educators a wide range of tools and resources to bring energy efficiency into the classroom to save energy while helping students build vital real-world skills.
- Universities Graded on Sustainability
In January, the Sustainable Endowments Institute released a College Sustainability Report Card rating the 100 North American colleges and universities with the largest endowments. The report ranked schools from A to F on 26 indicators, including green building initiatives, climate change and energy, and food and recycling, with particular attention to endowment and investment policies.
- Five E's Unlimited
Five E's Unlimited, a sustainable development consulting firm, helps people and organizations in integrating business decisions with environmental decisions. Some of the projects Five E's Unlimited is involved with include the Sustainability Manifesto, a compilation of sustainability resources and information; assisting communities in sustainable development strategic planning, internationally; forming Sustainable Cascadia, a Seattle, Washington-based organization working to cultivate best practices; and the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), a new organization for sustainability professionals.
- Encyclopedia of Life:
Supported by grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the "Encyclopedia of Life" is a global effort to document all 1.8 million named species of animals, plants, and other forms of life on Earth. The encyclopedia will be a multimedia Wikipedia-style Web site, providing downloadable information on each species. The Field Museum, Harvard University, the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Biodiversity Heritage Library partnered to launch the project.

EnergyTeachers.org (ETO) offers help to teachers interested in teaching about energy production and use. Services include this web site, face-to-face meetings, newsletters, a lending library, and other tailored services.
- How was the Greenest Building Built?:
The Common Fire Housing Co-op is the first Platinum building in New York State and the "Greenest" building in the Eastern USA, as certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. This site provides an in-depth approach to the concept and need for green building as well as the details of the Common Fire project. It also provides a specific link for educators, with a teacher's guide to the site.
- Kids Create Your Feature:
Created by Japan for Sustainability, a Japanese NGO providing information on the environment to more than 170 countries, the "Create Your Future" Web site is full of ideas for kids to investigate how they can improve the environment including "Ways to Create an Eco-Friendly Lifestyle," and "How to Create a City Without Automobiles," and more.

- EnviroNews Quarterly Online
EnviroNews is the official newsletter of the International Society of Environmental Botanists. Published quarterly, EnviroNews caters to those who are deeply interested in current environmental issues.
- Promise of Place
Web site offers program ideas, case studies, research, links, and other resources to support place-based education projects. The Promise of Place Web site is project of the Center for Place-based Learning and Community Engagement and was supported by the USDA Forest Service as part of Electronic Commons competitive grants program.
- Environmental Racism: An Ecumenical Study Guide
Studies show that toxic and hazardous industries establish themselves far more often in communities of color and that these communities face greater health risks due to industrial pollution. - Safe Routes 2 School
Safe Routes to School is a program created by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). It is designed to encourage children to walk or ride their bike to school, promoting health and wellness. It also promotes safety and reduces traffic in areas with elementary schools. Schools are able to register to participate in this program.
- BBC Climate Change

- Environmental Earth Angels Bio-Action Program
This student Environmental Education program in Ontario, Canada engages students by providing class modules and labs on biodiversity. The outdoor activities give students a chance to utilize their knowledge and see how they can directly impact the environment.

- National Science Foundation Chem Links
This is National Science Foundation (NSF) college student resource for years one and two of chemistry. Features 2-4 week modules with real-world questions (What Should We Do About Global Warming?) and develops the chemistry needed to answer them. Developed and tested by faculty from 40 two- and four-year colleges and universities, the modules can be adapted for use in a variety of non-science courses.

- Be Stormwater Savvy
The DEQ stormwater site contains a plethora of information including citizen's guides to topics such as hazardous waste disposal and native landscaping. It also contains information about proper lawn care. Aside from containing print ads, posters, flyers, brochures and fact sheets, the site includes activities for children and information on how to conduct your own stormwater outreach campaign. - Cell Phone Recycling Drop used cell phones in collection boxes where cell phones are sold, or send old phones to Charitable Recycling. - The Coleman Eco-Project
The Coleman Eco-Project 2015 was kicked off on April 29, 2005 by planting 50 trees on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Coleman Natural Foods will team with American Forests and American Farmland Trust in this decade long project. During the next 10 years, this partnership will be dedicated to joint efforts designed to improve and preserve the environment and strengthen the future of American agriculture.
