News Advisory - First Annual Michigan Rehabilitation Services Employer Champion Awards to be Presented Wednesday, October 14 at State Capitol

October 13, 2009 - The Michigan Rehabilitation Council in collaboration with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) and the Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) in the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG) will host the first annual MRS Employer Champion Awards to recognize employers from around the state who consistently support, train, hire, and retain customers served through Michigan's public vocational rehabilitation programs. The event will be held Wednesday, October 14, at 11:30 a.m. in the Speaker's Library at the State Capitol. Media representatives are invited to attend.

Michigan's public vocational rehabilitation system provides a valuable service to Michigan citizens and economy. Together, MRS and MCB assist more than 7,800 individuals with disabilities achieve competitive employment and self-sufficiency annually. Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm has proclaimed October 2009 as Investing in Abilities month to encourage employers to hire qualified people with disabilities, focusing on their abilities.
