Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

December 1, 2009

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved for one year a temporary waiver of rules that permits The Detroit Edison Company and Michigan Consolidated Gas Company to bill customers whose monthly bills are less than $30 every three months, instead of monthly.

In asking for the rule waiver, the companies noted that they annually send out over one million monthly bills for service under $30.

In approving the waiver request, the MPSC noted that the change increases the companies' effectiveness and efficiency, thus benefitting customers.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.

Case No. U-14851
