Michigan Liquor Control Commission Invites Licensees to "An Afternoon with the Liquor Control Commission"

Contact:  Andrea Miller 517-322-5898
Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

February 12, 2010 (Lansing) - The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) in conjunction with the Huron County Safe Communities Coalition is pleased to announce "An Afternoon with the Liquor Control Commission" on Monday, February 22, 2010 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. at the Franklin Inn, 1060 East Huron Ave., Bad Axe, Michigan.

All business owners with a liquor license are invited to attend, as well as store or restaurant managers and staff. The public is also welcome. Admission is free and space is limited. Register in advance by calling Kristi Pitts at the Huron County Health Department at 989-269-9721 ext. 123.

"Holding a liquor license is a responsible privilege, not a right. We strive to make sure that we have licensees that will make the right decisions with their businesses, by protecting the citizens of Michigan in not selling to minors, over-serving their customers, and not allowing fighting or other illegal activities in and around their premises," said Nida Samona, Chairperson of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.

The event features a guest panel from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission including: Patrick Gagliardi, Commissioner; Scott Maul, MLCC Enforcement Division; and Orlando Todd, Clean Indoor Specialist for the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH). The panel will discuss the Michigan "Smoke Free" law, learn about the MLCC Code, learn how decoy operations work, and will have time for questions and answers.

"We believe that Michigan businesses that are licensed to sell alcohol are a bright spot in our economy," said Samona. "The Liquor Control Commission works with all partners in the industry to ensure that this important sector of our economy can continue to succeed and create more jobs."
