Complete required Prelicensing Education (PE) coursework from a Michigan-approved PE provider prior to taking an examination.
The education requirements may be met by either completing an approved 20-hour classroom course or successfully completing an approved self-study course.
Upon completing the required PE program, applicants will be issued a Course Completion Certificate for each line of authority completed. The certificate is valid for 12 months from the completion date and the corresponding examination must be successfully completed during this 12-month period.
Applicants will not be admitted to an examination without the original, unaltered course completion certificate(s) for each corresponding line of authority. If a student is taking a combined examination, they will need to submit two course completion certificates ? one for each line of authority.
File an Electronic Resident Licensing (ERL) application, through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website. The application/license fee is $10.00 plus a $5.00 transaction fee. Successful completion of the examination. If the examination is not passed within six months, the applicant must submit a new license application and fee and reschedule their examination. Visit our Examination Information page for information specific to the examinations.
