Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

November 30, 2009

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today said that "Efficiency United" has launched its energy efficiency program for the 11 Michigan utilities that opted to use the state energy optimization plan administrator.

"With the kickoff of Efficiency United, all utility customers in the state of Michigan now have available to them an energy efficiency program that can help reduce energy use," noted MPSC Chairman Orjiakor Isiogu.  "The result will be lower bills for customers and a reduced need for additional electric generation in Michigan."

On Aug. 10, the MPSC designated the Michigan Community Action Agency Association (MCAAA) as Michigan's Energy Optimization Plan Administrator.  CLEAResult Consulting Great Lakes, Morgan Marketing Partners, Michigan Energy Options, WARM Training Center, JACO Environmental, Franklin Energy, Inskeep Design Partners, and Maiorana + Partners are responsible for program planning, design and implementation.

Utilities offering the Efficiency United program are:  Alpena Power, Bayfield Electric Cooperative, Daggett Electric Department, Edison Sault Electric Company, Indiana Michigan Power, Xcel Energy, Upper Peninsula Power Company, WE Energies, Wisconsin Public Service Corp., Michigan Gas Utilities, and SEMCO Energy Gas Company.

Low-income customers of these utilities have available to them Efficiency United's Energy Efficiency Assistance Program, managed in conjunction with MCAAA and its member agencies.

The energy efficiency programs available vary by utility.  Customers can get more details by calling 877-367-3191 (toll free) or by visiting the EfficiencyUnited.com Web site.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
