Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

November 7, 2008 - The Office of the Automobile and Home Insurance Consumer Advocate for the State of Michigan will hold a public hearing on Monday, November 10, 2008 in Grand Rapids.  The meeting will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Grand Rapids Community College, Applied Technology Center, Auditorium Room 168, 1st Floor, Grand Rapids, MI.

The purpose of the Auto Insurance Affordability hearing is to receive testimony from consumers, industry experts, and other stakeholders to address two basic questions: 1) Are Michigan's auto insurance rates affordable?, and 2) Has Michigan's de-regulation of the insurance industry allowed for adequate oversight of auto insurance rates?

Testimony received at the hearing will inform the Advocate's recommendations for auto insurance reform, to be contained in the Advocate's Annual Report to the Governor. The Executive Order creating the Advocate position requires the Annual Report to contain recommendations for administrative, legislative, or other corrective actions that would positively affect the interests of automobile insurance consumers.

Questions about the hearing can be directed to (517) 241-2983.
