Michigan Wind Working Group Receives National Recognition Jennifer Alvarado, GLREA Executive Director,Named Outstanding Young Wind Advocate

May 12, 2009 - The Michigan Wind Working Group, headed by John Sarver, Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth, was recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind Powering America program in Chicago last week at their annual state summit meeting. Outstanding Wind Working Group of the year went to Michigan and John Sarver accepted the award on behalf of the group's many participants.

In addition, Jennifer Alvarado, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association, was named Outstanding Young Wind Advocate for the Midwest this year for promoting wind energy use in Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. This award recognizes her efforts in the adoption of the Michigan's Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard, advocating for the revisions of Michigan's net metering program and organizing Michigan's Wind Energy Conference this past March in Detroit, Michigan.

Alvarado presented at the American Wind Energy Association's Conference on Public Perception's in Wind: The Michigan Story. Her presentation focused on the opportunities to remove barriers at the local and state level through public and decision maker education.

The Michigan Wind Working Group is a forum that brings together diverse groups and interested citizens to address current wind energy issues.

Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association is a 501c3 nonprofit that educates and promotes renewable energy use in Michigan. GLREA will host the fourth Michigan Energy Fair, June 26th - 28th, 2009 at the Manistee County Fairgrounds.
