Contact:  OFIS (Toll-free) 1-877-999-6442
Agency: Financial and Insurance Regulation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 14, 1996

Patrick M. McQueen, Commissioner of Michigan's Financial Institutions Bureau, has been re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). CSBS is the professional association of state officials responsible for chartering, regulating and supervising the nation's 7,068 state-chartered commercial banks and 474 state-licensed branches and agencies of foreign banks.

McQueen was elected to a second one-year term as Chairman of CSBS District II, representing the Midwestern states. The CSBS Board of Directors meets at least three times a year in person, and more frequently by conference call, to set policy for the organization and oversee its implementation. CSBS represents the state banking system within the banking industry, on Capitol Hill, before the federal regulatory agencies, and in the courts. It is also the primary source of examiner training for state banking departments.

McQueen was appointed Commissioner of the Financial Institutions Bureau in May 1993. At the time of his appointment, he was a consulting director for the certified public accounting firm of Doeren Mayhew. He had previously been Senior Vice President of Manufacturers Bank, now Comerica. McQueen holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and an MBA from Michigan State University.
