Southeastern Michigan Insurance Agent Summarily Suspended

Contact:  OFIS (Toll-free) 1-877-999-6442
Agency: Financial and Insurance Regulation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 8, 1998

LANSING – On December 1, 1998, Insurance Commissioner E. L. Cox summarily suspended the licenses of insurance agent Mark Dupuis and his agency, Various Markets, Inc.

According to the order of summary suspension, Mr. Dupuis is alleged to have issued insurance policies in the name of Lloyds of London and then failed to submit the insurance premiums to Lloyds or inform Lloyds of the existence of the policies. In addition, Mr. Dupuis and his agency are alleged to have issued insurance binders in the name of American International Sureties, Ltd. (AISL), an unlicensed insurer that was found by British regulators to be insolvent and was subsequently ordered in April 1998 to cease its operations. Mr. Dupuis and Various Markets, Inc. allegedly continued to issue insurance certificates to Michigan residents after AISL was determined to be insolvent.

Mr. Dupuis primarily sold property and casualty insurance policies through office locations in Royal Oak and Northville.

Any individual who has been issued AISL coverage from Mr. Dupuis or Various Markets, Inc. should contact the Michigan Insurance Bureau immediately at (517) 373-0240. Individuals who purchased Lloyds of London marina or yacht coverage from Dupuis or Various Markets, Inc. should contact Elliston, a Lloyds representative company, at (215) 862-2010.
