CIS Summarily Suspends Iowa Physician's License

Contact:  Maura Campbell 517.373.9280
Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

DECEMBER 12, 2001 - The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) has summarily suspended the physician’s license of Alan P. Skora, D.O., of De Witt, Iowa, as a result of Skora’s medical license suspension in the state of Iowa.  The Board of Medical Examiners of the State of Iowa indefinitely suspended Skora’s physician’s license due to numerous standard of care and competency infractions regarding six surgical patients, which resulted in two patients dying from complications.

The CIS Bureau of Health Services orders a summary suspension when it believes the public’s health, safety and welfare warrant emergency action.  An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Skora’s suspended physician’s license.
