NOVEMBER 16, 1999 - The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) has summarily suspended the registered nurse license of Diane Marie Haskins of Casco for failing to comply with an order of the Michigan Board of Nursing concerning substance abuse treatment and monitoring. The CIS Bureau of Health Services orders a summary suspension when it believes the public’s health, safety and welfare warrant emergency action.

Haskins was required by the Board’s order to enter into a monitoring agreement with the Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP), a monitoring program that supports recovery from substance abuse, chemical addiction and mental illness. Enacted legislatively five years ago, the HPRP encourages health professionals to address their problems before their impairment harms a patient or damages their careers.

When Haskins failed to aid the HPRP in formulating the required monitoring agreement, the HPRP closed her file and returned it to the Department, which summarily suspended her license. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Haskins’ suspended nursing license.
