Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services Airs New Cable Show "Consumer's Corner" Pilot Gives Tips on Finding Child Care and Nursing Homes

Contact:  Maura Campbell 517.373.9280
Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

OCTOBER 10, 1997 - Searching for quality child care and nursing homes just got a little easier, thanks to the first segment of "Consumer's Corner."

Produced by the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services, the 30-minute Consumer's Corner explores issues affecting all state residents. Because CIS is the state agency that licenses and regulates all child care centers and nursing homes, the pilot show discusses features to look for in a quality facility. Now airing on many statewide cable stations, the show is hosted by CIS Director Kathleen Wilbur, who has children of her own in day care.

Guests on the child care segment include Mark Sullivan, Executive Director of the Michigan Community Coordinated Child Care Association and State Representative Dan Gustafson, (R)-Williamston, sponsor of legislation dealing with child care organizations. Offering information about nursing homes facilities is Sandra Kilde, president of the Michigan Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

For more information about when Consumer's Corner will air in your community, call your local cable station.
