No, an individual who is licensed as a physician's assistant in Michigan is not eligible for a controlled substance license.
Licensed physician's assistants are prohibited from independently prescribing controlled substances in Michigan. Under the delegation of a supervising licensed physician, a licensed physician's assistant may prescribe controlled substances in Schedules 2-5. In addition, a supervising physician may delegate in writing to a physician's assistant the ordering, receipt and dispensing of complimentary starter dose drugs including Schedule 2-5 controlled substances. The names and DEA registration numbers of both the physician's assistant and the supervising physician must be used, recorded or otherwise indicated in connection with each order, receipt or dispensing so that the individual who dispenses or administers the prescription knows under whose delegated authority the physician's assistant is prescribing.
