Braille-A-Thon at the State Capitol, June 23, 2009, in Lansing

Braille-A-Thon at the State Capitol in Lansing, on the south lawn and east steps 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Activities include Braille contests for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, Braille bingo, entertainment, and more. Open to the public and free of charge. MCB will host an information table. Blind or visually impaired vendors and entertainers and organizations of and/or serving individuals who are blind or visually impaired can host a table for $25. All food vendors must be Business Enterprise Program operators. See the online registration forms for vendors and contest participants. Braille-A-Thon

Mission Statement 

 

In the spirit of promoting the importance and use of Braille and other skills of blindness, this event is being offered to all blind and visually impaired children, adults, their parents, and interested community members of the state ofMichigan , to:

  1. Celebrate the 200th anniversary of Louis Braille.
  2. To bring about awareness to the educational system and members of Michigan 's community about the importance of Braille literacy and the capability of Braille users.
  3. To bring about awareness to the educational system and members of Michigan 's community regarding the importance of other skills of blindness and the capability of blind and visually impaired children and adults in general.
  4. To provide information to members of Michigan 's community regarding Braille literacy, skills of blindness, and the importance of quality education for blind and visually impaired children.
  5. To provide an enjoyable event which includes social networking between blind and visually impaired adults and children; supporting parents of blind and visually impaired children; resulting in feelings of confidence, capability, and the sense of belonging to a valid cultural group of people.
