Examination Requirements

Upon successful completion of barber college, an individual is eligible to take the state board examination.  Article 11 of the Occupational Code requires that all applicants, except barber instructors, successfully pass a state board qualifying examination which consists of a theory section and a hands on practical section to illustrate an applicant's understanding of proper procedure.  Barber instructors only are required to take a theory examination.

To obtain approval to take the barber examination, a license application must first be submitted through our online service, MyLicense.     Barber Examination Application Information will provide the steps needed to submit your online license application.
