May 12, 2017 – As part of the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction from May 8-12, 2017, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) along with contractors and employers across the state held stand-down events in an effort to raise awareness towards the prevention of workplace fall fatalities and injuries.

“MIOSHA is pleased with the strong response from Michigan workers and employers during National Stand-Down week,” said MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman. “Every workplace fall fatality can be prevented. Educating and training on construction job sites is critical to stopping falls and saving lives, and we need everyone’s help to protect our workers.”

Falls continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers across the nation. As Michigan enters the construction season, MIOSHA is reminding employers and workers of the importance of fall prevention and using these Stand-Down events to educate and train employees and contractors on fall protection best practices.
