MPSC Authorizes Michigan Consolidated Gas Company to Collect $87 Million for 2008 UncollectiblesContact: Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323
August 25, 2009
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today authorized Michigan Consolidated Gas Company to collect $87 million for uncollectibles in 2008, beginning on Sept. 1. To help moderate the effect on customers, the surcharge will be collected over a 15-month period, instead of the traditional 12-month period used.
Today's order authorizes the utility to implement the uncollectibles expense true-up mechanism (UETM) surcharge of $0.03480 per hundred cubic feet of natural gas for residential customers. The average residential natural gas customer will see an increase of $3.48 on their monthly bill.
The utility on March 30 filed an application seeking a general rate increase and the implementation of an UETM. The MPSC in its April 28, 2005 order authorized the utility to implement the UETM.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
