LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Agency for Energy (MAE) and the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today announced Nick Assendelft as the new public information and media relations specialist for the two agencies.

“We are fortunate to have Nick and his wealth of knowledge to support our communications in this fast-changing energy environment,” said Valerie Brader, executive director of MAE. “Nick will play a critical role in developing our messaging to the various stakeholders with an interest in Michigan’s energy policy.”

Assendelft is a former newsroom editor for The Detroit News, where he managed reporters covering areas including the Legislature, the Governor’s office, and state and federal government issues. In his new role, he will communicate about energy and telecommunications matters with the public and the media using a variety of platforms. He can be reached at assendelftn@michigan.gov.

Assendelft replaces Judy Palnau, who now heads MAE’s Strategic Communications office that focuses on the agency’s efforts in emergency preparedness, outreach and advocacy for energy waste reduction.
