Watters Names Thielsen to Bank and Trust Examinations

Office of Financial and Insurance Services (OFIS) Commissioner Linda A. Watters announced the appointment of Gary Thielsen as Assistant Director of the agency’s Bank and Trust Division. In his new position, Mr. Thielsen will manage the Bank and Trust Division’s examination program.

“Mr. Thielsen’s extensive experience in bank regulation made him an excellent choice. Gary also has been instrumental in developing an examination program that is among the best in the nation,” said Watters.  “Michigan’s banking community can rely on Gary to continue the division’s tradition of excellence in supervision.” 

Mr. Thielsen is a 23-year-plus veteran of OFIS and the former Financial Institutions Bureau.  He joined the state in February 1980 after serving as an examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. From September, 1987 until his selection in January, 2003 to assume the Assistant Director responsibilities, Mr. Thielsen was supervisor of the Bank and Trust Division’s east region examination staff.

Mr. Thielsen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, where he majored in accounting.  He and his wife, Ginny, and sons Adam and Brian reside in Holt.
