Shelly Edgerton, Director
Shelly Edgerton is the Director for the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Prior to joining LARA, Edgerton dedicated 27 years of service to the state Legislature where she served most recently in the capacity of Deputy Senate Majority Counsel in the Senate Majority Policy Office. She also previously held titles of Assistant Senate Majority Counsel and Chief of Staff for Senator Dave Honigman. Edgerton earned her bachelor's degree and a Master of Public Administration degree from Western Michigan University. She went on to receive her juris doctor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Allan Pohl, Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer
Al Pohl is LARA's Chief Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer. As Chief Deputy Director, Pohl oversees the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons, Fire Services, and the Liquor Control Commission, as well as Finance and Administrative Services. Al has worked in state government financial management for more than 40 years. He began his career in 1974 in the Department of Management and Budget's Central Accounting Division. In 1985 he began working for the Department of Commerce in the Financial Management Division and in 1993 became the Chief Accountant for the department (now LARA). In 2003 he was appointed as the CFO and Director of Finance and Administrative Services for LARA. He earned a B.A. in business administration from Northwood University and a M.S.A. from Central Michigan University.
Stephanie Comai, Deputy Director
Stephanie Comai is Deputy Director at LARA. She previously served as the Director of the Talent Investment Agency, directing initiatives of Michigan’s workforce development programs and the Unemployment Insurance Agency. Comai previously served as a Deputy Director at the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Before that, Comai served as Director of Revenue and Partnership Enhancement for the Department of Human Services. She served on the Central Michigan University board of trustees from 2003-2010. She also chaired the State Management Issues Committee for Governor Snyder's Transition Office during 2010. Working for Governor John Engler, Comai directed the development of the Michigan.gov web portal. She held other positions that focused on enhanced technology use, executive staff recruitment, implementation of policy initiatives, and fiscal efficiencies. Comai also worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Labor. She earned a master’s degree from George Washington University and a bachelor’s from the University of Michigan.
